The Department for Education’s recognition of academy trust clerks as the board’s ‘governance professional’ is a start in terms of acknowledging the importance of the role, according to ICSA: The Chartered Governance Institute. Recognising the broader responsibilities as “…about helping the board understand its role, functions and legal duties and supporting the chair to enable and facilitate strategic debate and decision making” in the DfE’s revised Governance Handbook, the Institute believes that this continued emphasis shows the important advisory and support role that governance professionals play in helping academy boards to achieve success

ICSA: The Governance Institute has today announced that it has changed its name to become The Chartered Governance Institute, a move which mirrors the change in name of the international professional body of which it is a division.

From a visit to Uganda and Kenya, the Institute’s CEO Linda Ford reflects on how governance professionals are connecting across borders, and why strong governance must come before AI. Meetings with members, graduates and business leaders underline a shared purpose, and a growing recognition of governance as a strategic discipline in an increasingly complex world.

On Friday 5th January, Sara Drake, CEO of CGIUKI wrote to Bim Afolami MP, the Treasury Minister, urging him to call an emergency meeting to review the UK's delisting problem.

On 6 March 2024, Jeremy Hunt will deliver the Spring Budget, the last anticipated fiscal event before a general election later this year.

Sara Drake will step down to focus on her non-executive roles and other projects.
